2D Motion Designer - Youtube Channel - Fern and Simplicissimus

We are looking for a skilled and creative 2D Motion Designer to join our visual storytelling team at Simpli / Fern. You’ll play a key role in shaping the visual identity of our explainers, video essays, and documentaries through clean, compelling motion graphics and animation.

As a 2D Motion Designer, you will collaborate closely with writers, editors, and producers to create visual assets that clarify complex ideas and elevate storytelling. This role is ideal for someone with a strong design sensibility, motion design expertise, and a passion for journalistic and visual content.

The role will be fully remote and will be on a freelance basis. Work is expected to be available very often.

Tasks

Motion Design & Animation

• Create polished 2D animations, including maps, text animations, transitions, and data visualization

• Stylize and enhance footage to ensure consistency with brand and story tone

• Develop visual templates for recurring formats

• Work with editors and producers to ensure seamless integration of motion graphics into final edits

• Create assets that are adaptable across different platforms (e.g. social, web)

Creative Collaboration

• Interpret scripts and storyboards into engaging visual sequences

• Work closely with editors and the creative team to align visuals with editorial goals

• Contribute ideas for visual metaphors, sequences, and storytelling formats

• Maintain visual coherence and quality across projects

Requirements

• Professional proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop

• Strong aesthetic skills, with a solid grasp of composition, typography, and color theory

• 3+ years of professional experience in motion design (ideally in explainers, video essays, or documentaries)

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment

• Enthusiastic about visual storytelling and editorial content

• Intermediate German language skills
