About The Role

The Production Designer is part of the Design Studio and Production team and will assist with the design and

production of all show-related elements for both touring and permanent exhibitions, and attractions, working

collaboratively with the Design team, Operations team, Production team, Project Management, and any other

necessary teams to ensure exhibition experiences are integrated, on-brand, and on-strategy.

The Production Designer is responsible for developing innovative exhibition environment solutions, being a

spatial problem-solver, and assisting in strategic narrative development, interpretive planning, design

programming, visitor journey studies, space planning, interior design, and interior architectural solutions. The

Production Designer will participate in design development, and any other design related disciplines to ensure

creative vision is aligned and maintained.

Will use various mediums and design tools to create diagrams, drawings, and 3D visual models, detailing

creative intent and integration of show components for fabrication, and for show spaces and floorplans.

Responsible for designing projects to company goals, creative intent, schedule, and budget requirements.

Candidates will understand materials, finishes, and fabrication processes and have a strong background in

Themed Entertainment Design. A vigorous design communicator with experience in drawing or representing

design thinking through renderings, 3D models, and documentation, such as schematic drawings, plans and

elevations. Can select and specify Materials, Finishes, FF&E while being familiar with industry trends specific

to museums, attractions, exhibits, and immersive spaces. Completes work assignments delegated to the

design team during all phases of the project. Schedule and organize design reviews as often as needed during

the design process.

Essential Duties

  • Develop innovative, immersive, and experiential exhibition environments and design solutions

which meet the strategic, functional, and budgetary scope for each project within existing or new

facilities.

  • Participate in all phases and aspects of a project, including research and project immersion,

strategy, ideation, concept design, schematic design, design development, design intent

documentation, and fabrication and installation oversight as needed.

  • Communicate and provide key deliverables and design solutions through story-driven architectural

visualization, drawings, sketches, 3D models, and documentation, including elevations and

sections, details, specifications, and other supporting materials.

  • Create thoughtful, clear, and direct presentation plan documents that communicate design-thinking

for our clients, fabricators, vendors, and creative partners in the collaborative design process.

  • Develop exhibition environments, including design programming, space planning, scenic

environment design, material and finish design, fixture and millwork design, interactive design, tech

integration design, and many other design elements as needed per show and location.

  • Develop design solutions for touring exhibitions that consider modularity for multiple venue

footprints and existing conditions. Adapt existing exhibitions to new venues, while ensuring the

accuracy and practicality of design through all phases of the project.

  • Have a deep understanding of the fabrication construction drawing development phase and the

production phase, to oversee the production of show environment elements, while providing design

intent feedback to fabricators, guiding them through our creative strategy and vision.

  • Ensures that exhibitions meet or exceed creative intent, and achieves the guest experience on

schedule, and to the level of quality expected at Imagine.

  • Create, revise, and issue floor plans for touring exhibitions as needed.
  • Participate in all phases of the floorplan approvals process from initiation to final approval.
  • Ensure that floorplans adhere to artistic direction, installation guidelines, and venue restrictions.
  • Review exhibit matrices, content lists and installation manuals to ensure that show elements, floor

plans and asset libraries are up to date ensure creative intent is continued through the entire run of

the show.

  • Ensure that drawing templates, annotations, and schedules meet design standards.
  • Check over final floor plans to ensure accuracy, and prepare drawings sets for final issue.
  • Maintain revision and change logs across all exhibit floorplans, while making amendments to venue

floorplans when needed.

Prerequisite Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • 5+ years’ experience in Themed Entertainment Design, Museum Exhibition Design, Branded

Environments Design, Interior Design, Architecture, or Stage/Theatrical Production Design.

  • A passion for experience design and the built environment.
  • Connected to the creative industry – a strong knowledge of industry trends and innovations in

experience design.

  • An understanding of brand narrative and the ability to work within brand strategy framework.
  • Strong conceptual ideation and collaborative brainstorming abilities.
  • Strong understanding of the design process and documentation from initial concepts through

implementation.

  • An understanding of construction and fabrication methods, materials and finishes, schematic

drawings, elevations, plans, and design solutions

  • Ability to read architectural construction documents and shop drawings, and coordinate with

consultants and drafting teams, as required.

  • Hand drawing or sketching skills a plus.
  • Advanced AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3D Modelling, Adobe Creative Suite and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and concurrently work on multiple projects in a fast-paced studio environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, without compromising accuracy and integrity, within the constraints of

schedule and budget.

  • Flexibility to work both collaboratively and independently on projects of all scales.
