Job Summary

We’re seeking a strategic and visionary Director of Brand to lead our brand strategy and oversee the creative, content, and communications functions. This role is responsible for ensuring a consistent, compelling brand identity and voice across all touchpoints. You’ll guide integrated storytelling, design, and messaging to shape a brand experience that sets us apart in the market.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a strong grasp of branding, marketing, and consumer behavior. You’ll align cross-functional teams around a unified brand narrative, drive brand growth, enhance brand equity, and deliver on our brand promise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage brand equity, tracking brand health metrics and implementing strategies to enhance brand perception and loyalty.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the brand's visual and verbal identity, including logos, color schemes, messaging, and tone of voice.
  • Build and lead a multidisciplinary team across creative, content, and communications, providing guidance, mentorship, and clear direction to achieve brand objectives.
  • Collaborate with product marketing, demand generation, and customer success to unify messaging and amplify our story across touchpoints.
  • Establish clear KPIs for brand health, creative performance, and content impact; continuously optimize based on insights.
  • Champion the brand internally, ensuring every team understands and applies brand principles in their work.

Creative Direction

  • Oversee the evolution and execution of our visual identity across channels, ensuring creative output is compelling, consistent, and aligned with brand strategy.
  • Provide direction to in-house creative team and external agency partners to represent the brand aesthetic consistently.

Content Strategy

  • Own the company’s content vision and strategy, including downloadable content assets, lead magnets, research reports, blog, video, and social media.
  • Ensure content reinforces brand positioning, engages key audiences, and supports the full buyer journey.
  • Develop scalable process for distributing and syndicating content assets for maximum impact.
  • Maintain and elevate Payscale’s history of data-driven storytelling and providing strategic market insights and trends.

Corporate Communications

  • Direct brand-level communications, partnering closely with executive leadership to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Help shape corporate narratives, product announcements, and thought leadership.
  • Develop timely and strategic storytelling themes and identify opportunities for Payscale to lead the conversation around these core topics.
  • Define and maintain our core messaging framework in partnership with product marketing.
  • Ensure a consistent voice and writing style across campaigns, channels, and teams.
  • Strengthen Payscale’s overall position in the market and build relationships with relevant analysts and media.
  • Oversee the messaging and storytelling elements of the corporate website.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in brand, creative, content, or communications leadership roles—ideally in B2B SaaS or high-growth tech.
  • Experience working with various marketing and sales platforms is preferred, including Marketo, Salesforce, Asana, Muck Rack, Canva, and other tools
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and develop brand systems from the ground up.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely delivery.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creative leadership and impactful brand storytelling.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience influencing stakeholders across levels.
  • Deep understanding of how to scale brand identity across global, digital-first environments.

Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $175,000 - $262,600, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. This position is also eligible for an annual corporate bonus of 20%. If you are hired at Payscale, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider any internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).

Location

Payscale has an employee centric remote-first model that provides you the flexibility to do your best work in a space that supports you, while also finding time to collaborate in person for the moments that matter.
