We don’t just talk, we do. Lead the change with us.

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, we work with political leaders around the world to drive change. We help governments turn bold ideas into reality so they can deliver for their people. We do it by advising on strategy, policy and delivery, unlocking the power of technology across all three. And by sharing what we learn on the ground, so everyone can benefit. We do it to build more open, inclusive and prosperous countries for people everywhere.

We are a global team of over 800 changemakers, operating in more than 40 countries, across five continents. We are political strategists, policy experts, delivery practitioners, technology specialists and more. We speak more than 45 languages. We are working on over 100 projects, tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges. We’re all here at TBI to make a difference.

In a world of ever more complex challenges, we believe diversity of background and perspective is a strength. We pride ourselves on a culture that values and nurtures difference. We are dedicated to unlocking potential, not only for the countries we work in but also for each of our team members. No matter where you’re from or who you are, if you’re passionate about the transformative power of progressive politics, we invite you to build a better future with us.

Role Summary

About the Digital and Technology team

The Digital and Technology team plays a critical role in powering the Tony Blair Institute’s ambition to deliver impact at speed and scale. We design, build, and run digital services that support our mission and enable our teams to work smarter, move faster, and reach further.

Our work spans delivering best-in-class internal tools, harnessing data to drive insights, embedding AI across the organisation, and shaping the digital and technology environment that underpins everything we do.

We operate as strategic partners to the Institute’s global teams, providing expertise in digital products, platforms, and transformation. We believe technology should amplify human potential — making us more connected, more agile, and more impactful in everything we do.

We are building a modern, product-led, and user-centric digital capability, grounded in agile ways of working and a culture of continuous improvement. Joining us means being part of a team that is reimagining how technology can support meaningful global change.

Overview And Purpose Of The Role

The Digital and Technology team is seeking a mid-level UX/UI Designer to create digital services that are elegant, inclusive, and driven by user needs. Positioned within the Design function of the Digital & Technology team, the role will be central to shaping the user experience across a range of internal products during a phase of intense digital transformation.

The UX/UI Designer will work closely with product managers, developers, and business users to understand needs and behaviours, translating them into thoughtful, intuitive designs that influence how users engage with digital tools. The role requires a confident communicator and collaborator, able to engage proactively with a wide range of stakeholders, balancing user needs with organisational goals. Designs should support a global workforce, enabling staff in diverse country contexts and cultures to deliver their work seamlessly. This includes designing for multilingual environments, offline or low-bandwidth scenarios, and culturally adaptable interfaces. As part of a growing in-house capability, the role will contribute to defining and embedding good design practices across the team, championing inclusivity, usability, and consistent design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver high-quality UX/UI design work across internal digital products and services, ensuring designs are user-centred, inclusive, and aligned with business goals.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Collaborate with product managers, business owners, and other stakeholders to interpret user needs and organisational objectives into practical design solutions.
  • Build strong relationships across teams to ensure user-centred design is embedded into project planning and delivery.
  • Work with developers to ensure that designs are feasible and well-implemented.
  • Conduct or support user research and usability testing to inform and iterate designs.
  • Apply and contribute to the design system, patterns, and components.
  • Ensure design solutions are intuitive and functional across diverse user environments, cultures, and working contexts, including multilingual content, offline access, and low-bandwidth support.
  • Communicate design decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support the growth of user-centred design thinking within the team and wider organisation.

Skills And Experience

  • Significant experience designing user interfaces and experiences for internal digital products or services.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders, to shape and deliver user-centred solutions.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and best practices for inclusive, multilingual, and culturally aware design.
  • Experience working across the full design lifecycle — from discovery through to delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research insights and user needs into effective and elegant design solutions.
  • Proven collaboration experience with developers, business users, and product managers.
  • A compelling design portfolio showcasing process and outcomes across internal projects.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to articulate design rationale and influence decisions.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies and how design integrates with development.
  • Experience working in agile teams or iterative delivery environments.
  • Understanding of design ops, design systems, or governance in a growing digital function.
