About The Role

We are seeking an experienced UX Engineer or Frontend Engineer to join Propel’s dynamic engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by working across multiple products and technology stacks, including mobile banking, government program interactions, healthcare solutions, and frontend architecture. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, user-centric engineer who thrives in high-autonomy startup environments and is excited about solving meaningful problems that positively influence users’ lives. You will play a strategic role in identifying the best technical and product opportunities, shaping the technical direction of the company, and leading the development of innovative solutions from concept to deployment. This position involves both hands-on technical work and leadership in establishing best practices, fostering engineering excellence, and mentoring other team members. You will have the autonomy to tackle complex challenges while collaborating closely with designers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, accessible, and scalable products that align with Propel’s mission.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in designing, building, shipping, and maintaining scalable software products
  • Proficiency in at least one frontend programming language, with a willingness to learn JavaScript and Vue.js
  • Experience working in startup environments with the ability to operate independently and effectively amid ambiguity
  • Strong ability to quickly understand and contribute to complex product ecosystems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Deep experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, especially designers and product managers
  • Proven ability to provide constructive feedback during technical reviews, code reviews, and team discussions
  • Passion for creating impactful solutions that improve user experiences and outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize technical and product opportunities that align with company goals and user needs
  • Lead the development of new features and products, from initial concept through deployment, ensuring high quality and scalability
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code hygiene, documentation, and testing standards
  • Contribute to the architectural design and technical strategy for frontend systems and applications
  • Mentor and up-level other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence
  • Participate actively in product planning, design reviews, and strategic discussions to drive innovation
  • Work closely with designers and product managers to deliver accessible, user-friendly interfaces
  • Support and improve legacy systems while advocating for refactors and technical upgrades as needed
  • Ensure the timely delivery of high-impact projects with a focus on robustness, scalability, and user satisfaction
