The Marketing Communications Specialist works alongside a dynamic Marketing team to help drive and implement strategic marketing projects for defined animal-well-being audiences. 

The Marketing Communications Specialist works closely with the Marketing team to proactively and creatively maintain Maddie’s Fund brand, standards and voice for respective audiences. This position is responsible for supporting day-to-day and long-term strategic projects for the Foundation. This role collaborates with multiple cross functional teams such as, Education, Shelter Solutions, Access to Care, Accounting and Grants, creating project plans and timelines, driving clarity and completion of deliverables that meet the objectives of the marketing strategies. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Update editorial calendar, including themes, content gathering and interviews, writing articles, produce, edit and proofread copy to maintain single brand voice. 
  • Maintain the Marcom advertising calendar and spreadsheet, monitoring deadlines, themes, contacts and providing reports with analysis.
  • In collaboration with the Creative Services Manager and Marcom Project Manager create advertising and marketing materials including multiple ad sizes using design software.
  • Participate in brainstorming, messaging development and respond effectively to creative direction.
  • Maintain conference calendar and spreadsheet, process proposals with follow-up and analysis.
  • Assist in the creation and production of program materials for conference presence.
  • Coordinate schedules and Trello boards to help maintain editorial calendar for writing and delivery of communications projects.
  • Assist in development, writing, planning and delivery of email campaigns.
  • Create, write and produce presentations for speaking engagements as necessary.
  • Assist in writing of brand copy, email communications, direct mail, website/landing page copy, online and digital copy and press releases.
  • Assist in production of online newsletter, reports, promotional copy and poll questions; delivery to audiences using appropriate tools.
  • Write, edit and proofread copy for Maddie’s Fund website, online and digital copy on a regular basis; coordinating with team members for review and deliver to webmaster for publishing.
  • Support internal communications programs.
  • Assist with uploading and tagging images for Maddie’s Fund Web DAM system.
  • Produce materials for online and digital media, print and other outlets to promote all aspects of Maddie’s Fund, work with Creative Services Manager for print and production.
  • Track, analyze, monitor and report analytics from website, online and digital media sites understanding audience, geography and demographics.
  • Work within budget and timelines to ensure projects are on time and on budget.
  • Maintain budget to actuals for assigned projects.
  • Represent the Foundation at various events and meetings as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in Communications, English, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations or related field.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of work experience in Marcom or in a related area.
  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills desired with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce clever and creative stories, visualizing messaging through words, images and current design tools to inspire an audience to take action.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of AI prompt writing.
  • Proven ability to plan, anticipate, problem solve, engage proactively and take initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills: listening, verbal and written, public speaking a plus.
  • Experience with communications tools such as Slack, Zoom, Trello and Mac products, graphic design/visual content software (Canva) as well as Digital Asset Management Software (Web DAM); graphic design tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) AI prompt writing & presentation tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Gamma, etc.) a plus.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint/Canva, Box and Internet) and ability to learn proprietary web software required, InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator a plus.
  • Strong understanding of principles of good design; hierarchy of messaging, use of positive and negative space concepts and color theory.
  • Adhere to all Foundation brand/voice usage guidelines, including positive and inclusive language.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position may require local and national travel and may include evenings or weekend hours as needed for events.

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
