Pay: $80,000–$95,000 per year (3-Month Contract-to-Hire)

Bonsai is seeking a talented and motivated React/Next.js Developer to join our team.

You’ll help build fast, accessible, and scalable front-end applications using modern JavaScript frameworks. This role includes collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring contract developers, and delivering thoughtful, high-quality digital experiences.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a front-end or full-stack developer
  • Expertise with React.js and Next.js, including SSR and SSG
  • Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills (ES6+)
  • Solid grasp of front-end architecture and component design patterns
  • Experience with styled-components and responsive layout systems
  • Comfortable working with RESTful and GraphQL APIs
  • Familiarity with WordPress or Umbraco CMS integration
  • Experience using Git, CI/CD workflows, and agile collaboration tools
  • Strong debugging skills; bonus for using AI tools like Cursor or Claude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and lead contract developers. Management responsibilities are not part of this role, however, task-based direction and peer review are.
  • Bonus: Back-End Knowledge: Familiarity with back-end technologies such as C# or .NET is a plus, especially for developers comfortable navigating full-stack environments or collaborating closely with server-side teams.

About the job:

You’ll be responsible for building scalable, performant front-end applications for Bonsai’s diverse range of clients. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, backend developers, and stakeholders while taking ownership of components and leading contract developer contributions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop new features and reusable components using React and Next.js
  • Build high-performance web pages using SSR/SSG
  • Ensure accessibility, Core Web Vitals performance, and mobile responsiveness
  • Integrate RESTful and GraphQL APIs and CMS systems like WordPress and Umbraco
  • Guide contract developers through code reviews and technical direction
  • Use AI tools like Cursor to optimize debugging and development workflows
  • Collaborate across teams and present solutions clearly to clients
  • Stay current with modern frameworks and contribute to process improvement

Skills for the job:

  • React/Next.js expertise, including performance tuning and SSR/SSG
  • Proficient in JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern ES6+ practices
  • Experience with styled-components and responsive design best practices
  • HTML5, CSS3, and accessibility (WCAG) standards knowledge
  • GraphQL and RESTful API integration
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile project tools
  • Strong testing/debugging skills using tools like Jest or Cypress
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Ability to lead contractors or teammates
