What You'll Do

As Visual Designer for Starlight Development, you will lead the end-to-end visualization of world-class land development projects across off-grid retreats, high-end residential properties, and coastal Caribbean sites. Reporting to the VP of Land Development and collaborating with project managers and the founder, you'll turn vision into visuals - taking voice notes, sketches, terrain images, and field video and transforming them into detailed renderings that inspire and instruct.

You'll develop everything from sitewide layouts and environmental design plans to furniture zones, yurt configurations, beach club mockups, and heli-pad concepts. You'll shape the aesthetic language of each project while ensuring it can be executed on real terrain, with real people, in real time.

This role demands speed, clarity, and conceptual depth. You'll need to understand both the artistic feel and the construction constraints - delivering work that helps the team build, not just imagine. Site visits will be required. If you're a designer who can combine storytelling, design fluency, and execution-ready detail - this is the role.

Who You Are

  • Landscape-First Designer - You begin with the land: terrain, flow, materials, light. Structures respond to environment - not the other way around.
  • Creative Architect of Vision - You bring form to founder-led concepts, sketching and modeling environments that inspire action and elevate ambition.
  • Multiscale Thinker - You move easily from big-picture site planning to hyper-detailed structure placement and environment styling.
  • Fast + Sharp - You work quickly and iteratively, turning ambiguous inputs into polished output. You handle nonlinear feedback and keep moving forward.
  • Technically Fluent - You use tools like Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Unreal Engine confidently and creatively - but always in service of execution.
  • Structured + Organized - You build templates, asset libraries, and workflows to stay efficient, consistent, and focused.
  • Detail Obsessed - You care about angles, sunlight, and what makes a place feel lived-in and exceptional. Your visuals reflect care and craftsmanship.
  • Execution-Ready - You've worked in environments where your work directly led to real-world builds. You think like a builder and design like a visionary.

Responsibilities

  • Create 2D drawings and 3D renderings that bring entire development sites to life - integrating land, structures, and aesthetic environments
  • Translate voice notes, sketches, and rough ideas into polished visuals that convey intent, inspire execution, and reflect terrain constraints
  • Design across diverse environments - off-grid forested islands, desert retreats, and Caribbean waterfronts - with material and spatial sensitivity
  • Work across multiple design scales: from site layout to beach club flow to furniture positioning in a modular guest house
  • Visit sites to gather visual references, walk the terrain, and absorb context for accurate, responsive design
  • Build and manage a reusable library of blocks, scenes, and template assets to accelerate execution
  • Collaborate with the VP of Land Development, Project Managers, and contractors to ensure visuals are grounded in construction feasibility
  • Produce decks, maps, and visual packages for internal alignment and external presentations
  • Iterate on design rapidly in response to field updates, leadership feedback, and evolving build constraints

What You'll Bring

  • A portfolio showcasing high-quality environmental design, site planning, and architectural visualization - especially across natural or remote environments
  • Proficiency in SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, Twinmotion, Unreal Engine, or equivalent tools
  • Strong sense of scale, material, and environmental fit - with the ability to work across rugged, desert, and coastal terrains
  • Experience designing for real-world buildout: your work has supported actual construction and development efforts
  • Demonstrated speed and creativity in taking abstract or founder-led ideas and producing structured, visually compelling outputs
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with executives, PMs, and site teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel for on-site context gathering and design calibration
  • Preference for full-time employment; contract options considered if availability aligns with fast-moving project demands

Compensation

This role offers a competitive salary, performance-based incentives, and significant opportunities for career growth within Starlight Development. Benefits include full medical coverage, paid time off, and participation in the company's profit-sharing program.
