Summary

We’re looking for a UX Designer who thrives on simplifying complexity and designing powerful yet intuitive experiences for technical users. You’ll lead design for a product that supports hosting, managing, and sharing packages, environments, and notebooks—critical tooling for data scientists and developers working in Python and Conda ecosystems.

This role requires a designer who can deeply understand technical workflows around package publishing, access control, permissions, and interdependencies, and then translate those into clear, accessible user journeys. You’ll also help evolve our design system and contribute to interaction patterns that support scale and usability across a growing platform.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end UX for a technical product that enables users to publish, manage, and discover software packages, environments, and notebooks.
  • Create intuitive workflows for complex functionality, such as managing dependencies, permissions, versioning, and organization-level publishing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align design solutions with user needs and product goals.
  • Contribute to and help evolve a scalable design system, ensuring design consistency across components and patterns.
  • Partner with engineering to bring designs to life, including contributions to interaction design and lightweight animations (bonus).
  • Design with a deep understanding of user roles—ranging from individual contributors to large organizational admins—and tailor experiences accordingly.
  • Participate in feedback sessions, usability testing, and design critiques to iterate and refine solutions.
  • Operate well in ambiguity, identifying gaps and proactively proposing solutions even when requirements are still forming.
  • Conduct, perform, and evaluate quantitative and qualitative user and market research to help make informed product decisions – interviews, concept testing, usability studies, A/B testing, and/or multivariate testing
  • Facilitates communication amongst product stakeholders, management, and executives to maintain alignment and awareness of the current state of the experience and vision.

What You Need

  • 5+ years of UX/product design experience, ideally on platforms with complex workflows, technical users, or data-driven tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify highly technical or layered experiences into clear, elegant interfaces.
  • Experience working with systems that include permissions, access control, and interdependent components.
  • Familiarity with package or dependency management tools, environment sharing, or collaborative developer platforms is a strong plus.
  • Comfort working with and contributing to design systems.
  • Bonus: Experience or familiarity with CLI tools, or designing products that have both GUI and CLI interactions.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of or interest in AI, data science, or developer tooling ecosystems.
  • Strong communication skills—able to explain your design decisions to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders with clarity.
  • A collaborative, curious, and self-starting mindset. You enjoy learning, giving/receiving feedback, and solving problems as a team.
  • You embody our values of Clarity, Care and Candor.
  • You care deeply about fostering an environment where people of all backgrounds and experiences can flourish

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • A stellar portfolio showcasing your strong visual design skills
  • Experience with CSS, HTML or similar technologies
  • Previous experience in the data science/analytics/big data field
  • Previous experience designing multi-sided marketplaces
  • Previous experience with OSS
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Experience working in an open-source, AI, or data science-oriented company

Why You'll Like Working Here

  • You'll thrive in a high-performance environment where results are recognized and rewarded
  • Your work directly contributes to shaping the future of data science, machine learning, and AI in the enterprise.
  • You'll work alongside a collaborative team that values diverse, thoughtful discussion, clarity and candor.
  • You'll be supported by a culture that puts employees first - with flexible hours, a fully remote setup, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing and growth.
