Designer – Substation Design/Drafter

Location: India | Remote

Schedule: Full-Time | Working Hours: 6:30 PM to 3:30 AM IST

EVS is seeking a Designer/Drafter to join our growing Substation Design team. This is a remote position based in India, working evening hours (6:30 PM – 3:30 AM IST) to align with U.S. operations. The role reports directly to a U.S.-based manager and is ideal for an individual contributor who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about building a career in CAD design and the power & energy industry.

You will collaborate with experienced drafters and engineers to produce accurate design drawings while gaining valuable hands-on experience with industry tools, standards, and substation design fundamentals.

What You’ll Do

  • Use AutoCAD or similar CAD tools to develop moderately complex substation design drawings with minimal oversight
  • Apply company drafting standards and processes to complete assigned tasks
  • Check your own work for accuracy and adherence to quality procedures
  • Participate in improvement initiatives to increase design quality and efficiency
  • Collaborate with drafters, engineers, and other team members to support project development
  • Assist in resolving design challenges through research and basic problem-solving
  • Support document tracking and contribute to documentation as needed
  • Maintain attention to detail while managing time and meeting deadlines

What You Bring

  • Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Design or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Foundational experience with AutoCAD (or similar drafting software)
  • Basic understanding of design principles and electrical substation components (preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new concepts quickly
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Growth Path

You’ll begin by learning the terminology of the trade, collaborating with senior designers, and gaining confidence in substation design creation. As your skills develop, you’ll progress to more advanced design responsibilities, anticipate project needs, and grow into more technical roles in drafting or engineering support.
