Summary

The Junior Interior Designer provides services for all assigned IOT&A projects, developing structural interior design (SID) and comprehensive interior design (CID) packages, from concept through procurement and installation, to include furniture fixtures & equipment (FF&E), artwork and signage.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide interior design services for all assigned IOT&A projects - developing structural interior design (SID) and comprehensive interior design (CID) packages, from concept through procurement and installation, to include furniture fixtures & equipment (FF&E), artwork and signage.
  • Track resolution completion and technical compliance of all interior design related action items and tasks for assigned projects.
  • Ensure products and materials are in compliance with medical military construction (MedMILCON), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and VA Interior Design standards as applicable to individual projects.
  • Provide client and end-user coordination as necessary to ensure safety and regulation compliance within departmental and clinical spaces aligns with the equipment plans, furniture plans, specifications, and workflow in accordance with the concept of operations (CONOPS).
  • Advise GoE leadership and end users with technical advice and recommendations regarding interior design matters including, technology advancements, product innovations, adaptability and process improvements.
  • Provide support and guidance regarding Military Health System (MHS) goals and objectives regarding patient-centered care, evidence-based design (EBD), and leadership in energy & environmental design (LEED) standards.
  • Acts as the design 'vision keeper' regarding project goals and objectives, in educating users and maintaining the overall design intent throughout project duration.
  • Support Project Manager and project team with the elements of planning, movement, and transition activities, as it relates to interior design and FF&E goals.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project management teams in project meetings or individually to correct and prepare documents and products for submission.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills to multi-levels (end-user to leadership).
  • Problem-solving skills and gathering relevant information to defined practical problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team; interact professionally with project managers, team leaders, and engineering staff.
  • Willingness to occasionally work past normal working hours and attend unscheduled meetings.
  • Ability to perform under pressure at times and take pride in understanding, meeting and exceeding customer needs with an emphasis on producing high-quality documents and products.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong follow up and follow through skills.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or Architecture required
  • CIDA or NAAB accredited, preferred
  • NCIDQ certification preferred or on track for certification
  • Healthcare related interior design experience preferred.
  • Experience with CAD and Revit software required.
  • Experience with 3-D computer software, preferred.
  • Experience with VA/DOD medical facilities preferred.

Travel Requirements

Travel required approximately once a month for a week’s duration.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervision of others.
