About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Developer to join our Model Operations and Deployment Engineering group at our main research facility. This role offers the flexibility of remote work with the option to work onsite at the client’s location in New York, or from any part of the country, accommodating various time zones. The position is initially for a 12-month engagement, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in front-end and back-end development, with a primary focus on front-end tasks (approximately 70%) and supporting back-end development (approximately 30%).

The candidate will contribute to cutting-edge scientific research by developing software that aids scientists in making breakthrough discoveries in materials science. The role involves working on large infrastructure projects within a collaborative environment, often engaging directly with scientists and other software developers. As part of our research division, we prioritize high-quality applications, and while there are no on-call requirements, the role demands innovation, technical expertise, and a passion for exploring new technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in full stack development
  • Proficiency in front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue (preference for Vue 3)
  • Experience with Python-based web frameworks like Django or Flask
  • Strong API development skills
  • Experience with database technologies, including relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and non-relational databases
  • Ability to translate UI/UX designs from tools like Figma into functional interfaces
  • Experience mentoring junior developers and collaborating with UI/UX and QA teams
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as D3.js, Bokeh, or matplotlib
  • Strong mathematical and scientific skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and leadership abilities
  • Willingness to explore and learn new technologies

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain front-end applications using frameworks such as Vue 3, React, or Angular
  • Translate UI/UX designs from Figma into interactive, user-friendly interfaces
  • Develop and maintain back-end services using Python web frameworks like Django or Flask
  • Create and optimize APIs to support front-end functionalities and external integrations
  • Design and implement efficient database schemas, select appropriate database technologies, and perform SQL queries for data management
  • Collaborate with scientists and research teams to understand project requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Participate in defining project specifications and contribute to research exploring new technologies
  • Mentor junior developers and foster a collaborative team environment
  • Work closely with UI/UX and QA teams to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Engage in continuous learning to incorporate emerging technologies and best practices into projects
