Role Description

Our Product Engineers are at the forefront of crafting the seamless, intuitive user interfaces that millions rely on for their data interaction and collaboration needs. Leveraging advanced knowledge in languages and frameworks like JavaScript, CSS and HTML, we ensure Dropbox's platforms are responsive, accessible, and deliver exceptional user experiences. Through their commitment to optimization and innovation, they play a crucial role in evolving Dropbox's offerings, making digital storage and collaboration more efficient and user-friendly on a global scale.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Frontend Software Engineer to join our Design Systems team. As a key member, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining DIG, Dropbox’s design system, a vital component in ensuring a consistent and cohesive user experience across our products. You will collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to build reusable UI components, patterns, documentation, and tools that empower our product teams to create high-quality user interfaces efficiently. This role requires a strong understanding of frontend technologies, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for building scalable and accessible user interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance UI components for our design system, ensuring they are accessible, performant, and scalable.
• Collaborate closely with designers to translate designs and specifications into clean, efficient, and reusable code.
• Contribute to the overall architecture and design decisions for new UI development across Dropbox’s products.
• Ensure the design system adheres to WCAG guidelines and accessibility standards.
• Write clear, concise, and robust documentation for the design system components and usage guidelines for both developers and designers.
• Participate actively in code reviews, design critiques, and technical discussions to improve code quality and ensure adherence to Dropbox’s high standards.
• Stay informed about the latest front-end technologies, trends, and best practices in design systems to continuously improve our system.
• Troubleshoot and resolve internal customer issues related to the design system, providing timely solutions and maintaining the integrity of the system.
• Collaborate effectively with product managers and engineers to understand their needs and provide guidance on leveraging the design system.

Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in front-end development, with demonstrated experience working with a design system or within an design systems team.
• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a deep understanding of modern web development practices.
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular, and a proven ability to build and maintain complex single-page applications.
• Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, and the ability to translate designs into responsive components and patterns.
• Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards and best practices, including WCAG guidelines and ARIA attributes.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with large-scale design systems in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Experience with modern testing frameworks and techniques to ensure the quality and consistency of UI components.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and library publishing practices to automate the build, test, and publication process.
• Familiarity with web accessibility testing tools and methodologies.
• Experience with CSS architecture and practices, such as pre and post-processors, cross-browser compatibility, and responsive design.

$147,300—$199,300 USD

US Zone 3
$130,900—$177,100 USD

The range(s) listed above is the expected annual salary/OTE (On-Target Earnings) for this role, subject to change.

Please note, OTE are for sales roles only.

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Dropbox takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including job and level they are hired into, location/metropolitan area, skillset, and peer compensation. We target most new hire offers between the minimum up to the middle of the range.

Dropbox uses the zip code of an employee’s remote work location to determine which metropolitan pay range we use. Current US Zone locations are as follows:

• US Zone 1: San Francisco metro, New York City metro, or Seattle metro
• US Zone 2: Austin (TX) metro, Chicago metro, California (outside SF metro), Colorado, Connecticut (outside NYC metro), Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York (outside NYC metro), Oregon, Pennsylvania (outside NYC or DC metro), Washington DC metro, and West Virginia (DC metro)
• US Zone 3: All other US locations
