Description

  • This position is contingent upon future contract award to Gunnison.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backend Web Developer to join our team. This agile development expert will be a key member of our hybrid development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Tech Lead
  • Experience using modern, open-source software to prototype and deploy backend web applications, including all aspects of server-side processing, data storage, and integration with frontend development.
  • Web development using open-source web programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Python) and frameworks (e.g., Django, Rails)
  • Developing and consuming web-based, RESTful APIs. Using and working in team environments that use agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Lean).
  • Authoring developer-friendly documentation (e.g., API documentation, deployment operations) Test-driven development.
  • Use of version control systems, specifically Git and GitHub. Quickly researching and learning new programming tools and techniques.
  • Experience with relational and nonrelational database systems.
  • Scalable search technology (e.g. ElasticSearch, Solr).
  • Handling large data sets and scaling their handling and storage.
  • Using and working with open-source solutions and community.
  • Communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated deep technical level experience supporting backend web development.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
  • Technical, not academic, mastery of the current best practices in agile development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all members of the Library community; to include non-technical end users and stakeholders.
  • U.S. Citizenship or eligibility to work in US.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical related discipline or High School Diploma/GED with relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of industry and/or public service practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, calm under pressure, excellence in triage prioritization
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Training Certificates and/or Certifications in any of the following: Java, Python, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Containers, AWS, GitLab, Terraform, Solr, MongoDB

Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

The salary range for this position depends upon multiple factors including location, the individual's knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, and contract-specific budget constraints and organizational requirements.
