About The Role

We’re seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Medicare) to join our team focused on building a smart, seamless Medicare plan comparison and enrollment experience. In this role, you’ll design and develop scalable backend systems that support a high-impact product used by millions. You’ll work in a collaborative, cross-functional team that values innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.

This is a hybrid role with a strong preference for candidates located near Charlotte or Minneapolis, working in-office Tuesday through Thursday. Remote candidates may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development lifecycle—from planning and design to implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Build and maintain scalable backend systems to support Medicare plan search, comparison, and enrollment workflows
  • Collaborate with product, design, and frontend teams to translate business goals into reliable and performant APIs
  • Write clean, testable code with robust error handling and logging
  • Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Conduct peer code reviews and mentor junior developers
  • Stay up to date with evolving technologies, coding standards, and best practices
  • Contribute to a culture of quality, performance, and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience
  • 2–4 years of experience in backend development
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Proven experience building and maintaining REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Familiarity with both relational and NoSQL databases
  • Strong understanding of backend architecture, data modeling, and software design patterns
  • Experience with microservices and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred)
  • Competency in writing unit and end-to-end tests
  • Experience with Go (Golang) is a plus
