Roster is an AI hiring platform built for the creator economy. Our recommendation engine matches employers with top creative talent based on algorithmic matching of creative style. We're home to talent from 150+ countries who've worked with major creators like MrBeast and Dude Perfect. Think of us as the IMDb for digital content - cataloging who works with which creators and making those connections accessible.

The Opportunity

The $100B content creation industry lacks proper HR infrastructure. Every creator is essentially a media business needing specialized talent, yet they're limited to platforms like Upwork and Fiverr that aren't optimized for creative work. We're building the definitive platform for creative services, using AI to create more jobs for creative professionals.

Roster's growth

Since our official launch in June 2024 (announced in The Information), Roster has been revenue-generating from day one after bootstrapping our platform in under three weeks. We've experienced rapid growth, tripling our user base in just the past three months, and are backed by prominent angel investors from the media and creator industry as we continue to scale extensively.

Your Role

As our Backend Engineer, you'll:

  • Lead development and iteration of our backend systems
  • Design scalable, cost-effective database solutions
  • Optimize SQL queries and database structures
  • Create modular RESTful APIs for our frontend
  • Establish best practices for code quality
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • 3-4 years experience building scalable backend systems
  • Strong experience with Laravel or comparable OOP framework
  • SQL database design and optimization expertise
  • DevOps experience
  • Excellent remote communication skills
  • Fast-paced execution ability

This is a part-time position with a minimum 20-hour commitment.

  • Additional: Python for automation and AI

Bonus Qualifications

  • Willingness to support frontend development
  • Experience scaling marketplace products
  • Hands-on experience developing applications or side projects that integrate AI models
