🚀 Backend Engineer Intern (Rust / GraphQL / PostgreSQL)

SideQuest is building the next wave of social media — blending real-world adventures with digital storytelling. We’re transitioning from Firebase to a custom backend stack to support richer features and better performance. Join us in building it from the ground up.

We’re looking for a Backend Engineering Intern with experience in Rust, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL to help design a scalable, performant system powering our app. You’ll work directly on our Rust-based GraphQL server, integrate services like Neon (Postgres), Wasabi (storage), and collaborate with the mobile team to deliver real features to real users.

You’ll get to:

• Help build a feature-rich backend in Rust from the ground up.
• Build GraphQL endpoints in Rust for a fast, secure API.
• Design efficient SQL schemas, triggers, and queries.
• Integrate multiple cloud tools (Neon, Wasabi) into a unified system.
• Work alongside passionate engineers on real, production-grade code.

You should have:

• Experience coding in Rust (hobby or production)
• Comfort writing SQL queries and working with GraphQL
• Passion for backend architecture and clean APIs

Bonus if you have:

• Experience with Rust async/concurrency
• Prior work integrating Postgres, GraphQL, and Rust
• Exposure to Firebase, Flutter, or image/media storage services
